Top 5 Reasons I Hate Missouri (Misery)

I’ve lived in Moberly for 18 years and Columbia for about 7, and am currently in gorgeous southern California.  It’s been a long journey for me, but I never could warm up to that state.

5.  The weather is completely schizo.  One minute it will be 85 degrees and then it will be 40 & raining 20 minutes later.  The last six months I lived there, I counted about 4 days where it was beautiful (70-78 degrees, partly breezy & cloudy).  Because Missouri is where it is, you don’t get much chance to do winter sports & such like the happy north.

4.  Too many bible beating rednecks/relatives in one place for a bible burning agnostic like me.   Try going into a bar wearing anything remotely flambuoyant and you will get stared down by all the people who think you’re gay.

3.  Their biggest university, my alma matter, is way too fraternity/sorority centric for my liking.  Ninety-five percent of all their bars are catered toward this crowd.  For shame.

2.  Missouri has the lowest paid teachers in the entire United States.  Super lame.  They also have some of the worst roads & highways in the USA.

1.  Their biggest cities, Kansas City, Saint Louis, Springfield & Jefferson City are all about as fun as wiping your ass.  If you take sports out of Saint Louis, you end up getting an ultra catholic, ultra boring shithole with rude people and hoosiers.

If anyone else has any thoughts about Missouri, please feel free to rant or destroy my arguments.  This is my first official post for digg.  Thanks!

Hard Times

The past couple weeks I found out I have a herniated disc that’s going to require surgery.  The health care system is a fucking joke in the United States.  I didn’t get the surgery I needed, despite two trips to the emergency room, because they said it wasn’t “urgent care”.  But they did consider the fact that it’s driven me to seriously contemplate suicide, since they had someone watch me while the fetched the psychiatrist.  I got stronger meds now, whoop de do.  The ironic thing in my whole lower back ordeal is that the reinjuries both occurred while I was in the process of helping others.  What kind of message is that supposed to send?

Anyway, I’m still alive & still fighting.  My wife must really love me to stay with me through all this crap.  What sucks is that if and when I ever get the MRI/surgery I need, I still have chronic sinusitis, severe chronic allergies to mold and various foods, chronic insomnia and upper back/neck pain to deal with.  At least I’m back in Los Angeles where I belong.

Top 5 Things Digg Should Add

5. Ability to find users based on key words of stories they have dugg, similar to the way Facebook uses key words as links of like minded interests.

4. Ability for us to aggregate all the stories we have personally dugg into larger categories (tags). I read a lot of stories, but simply don’t have enough time to read everything I digg, and the ability to organize the information I digg would make it much easier to go back and catch up on those stories I have dugg but didn’t have time for.

3. Any submission receiving less than 100 diggs in the span of 1 month can be resubmitted by anyone. There are a lot of great videos and sites and stuff that just fall through the cracks and never get recognition and these links deserve another chance.

2. Ability to see who buried your story or your comment.

1. Image section is already coming, so make uploading profile pictures quicker and give us the option of uploading more than one picture at a time.

Digg Needs A Super Expanded Profile

Digg has been my website of choice for almost 3 years now, and I feel it has made some comfortable strides, but it needs to continue to develop it’s community.  More and more, I am seeing community members feeling disconnected due to the frustrating comment system, duplicate stories, jokers digging up ignorant comments or just a lack of interuseroperability (is that a word?)

Imagine a digg place that melds us in the direction of people who digg stories just like us?  It may seem silly, but when you’re someone like me who’s now dugg over 6,000 stories, it would be intriguing to know who has the most similar digging styles.
